Autumn Carp Fishing with Simon McCabe

Autumn carp fishing can produce some of the best results if you’re looking to catch big.

It’s a glorious time of year with those rich yellows and burnt oranges in the trees. I couldn’t think of a better time to experience a weekends fishing with friends. And even with another COVID lockdown breathing down our necks, escaping to a quiet lakeside haven is just the ticket.

Join John and me as we venture down to local water this week wetting our lines at the fabulous, Ashbury Fisheries in Hatfield Peverel, Essex.

Ashbury Fisheries is run by 3 partners, Ash, Rob and Derek and was formally known as Cleverly Fisheries. The fisheries made up of 2 lakes, the Mere and the Top lake. This weekend, we’ll be focusing all our attention on the Mere. A 9-acre lake with around 70 decent hard fighting English carp which go up to and over the magical 40lb mark.

But this is no walk in the park. It’s not an easy lake as you’ll see, and we’ll have to be stealthy and patient to trick these wily old characters out.
