More than £10,000 was raised for Help for Heroes during the Carping4Heroes weekend, held for the first time at Cudmore Fisheries, Staffordshire.
Seventy-two anglers representing six teams took part in a 24-hour match that was eventually won for the second year running by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines team on 70lb 14oz. Steve Brown and Ash Bonwick of Navy and Royal Marines won the pairs title, Sean Chance, who was representing the Civilian team, took the individual crown, Matt Johnson won the trophy for the first fish, and the biggest-fish prize went to Steve Brown with a 12lb mirror.
The night before to the match, the anglers were entertained by acoustic duo Stoney Road and Nottinghamshire four-piece Hawthorn Levi, and an auction was held, contributing £2185 towards the final fundraising total of £10,700. A Q&A session with successful northern angler Mark Hogg also took place on the Saturday evening while anglers took a break from the match.
Event organiser Simon Bangert said: “It’s a superb achievement by all who supported the event to break the £10k barrier again, and I wish to thank all the sponsors and the venue for their valuable support.”
