The first qualifier for the British Young Carpers Angling Championships 2018 kicked off at St Johns Pool on the Linear Fisheries complex.
A group of 16 budding young anglers took to the bank of the famous pool in a bid to secure their place in the grand final on Oxlease Lake later in the year. There were six places in the final up for grabs, so the match was always going to be hotly contested.
Unfortunately the fish had very different ideas, and played hard to catch. Lewis Brown banked the only fish of the qualifier at dusk on the first day, a stunning 26lb fully scaled mirror. Despite several losses and Jack Muskett being very honest having foul hooked a fish in the early hours, no more fish were added to the scoreboard. The match was finished with a cast-off which saw: Oliver Golding, George Vane, Tye Hackman, Harry Hogan and Fletcher Hore all join Lewis Brown in the qualifying places for the Oxlease final.
The next qualifier will be held on Brasenose Two over the 7-8th July. For more information and to keep in touch with the latest news, visit the BYCAC website at www.bycac.co.uk.
